Translated from the French

A detail of an Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakam, Vince Gill country music poster in French

I don’t speak French, but I can design in it? A type excerpt from a poster I made a couple years ago. This was made for printing, so the distress on the lettering looks a lot better on the printed piece than shown digitally, where it seems too digital.

Logo for underground electronic music showcase: Shadow Society

Logo for underground music showcase

Basically letterpressed, but rather than a press I printed this with my trademark (ha) “fingerpressed” method in order to get the right deterioration and imperfection.  Finished digitally. The mark is a heavily modified impression of a printer’s cut, the original was probably some type of Masonic order.

Civil War Project Titling

Civil War digital archiving project titling
I made this a few years ago for the Community & Conflict project, a digital archiving effort that seeks to collect bits of history from around the region, most of it relating to the Civil War. I wanted to show the local landscape, but with a bit of a sinister feel.

The project has gone on to win a Missouri Humanities Council award (in literature), and has become a model for other museums, libraries and organizations seeking to get their historical collections up to date.

Top Secret Announcement Design

This was pretty fun.. It was a concept, so it isn’t finished, for example, the blacked out paragraph at the bottom could probably be cleaned up and improved. And I don’t think you would have an actual document that says Classified at the top and Top Secret at the bottom. The final probably would’ve with one or the other.

Easy movie credits

An indie director needed some guidance in how to make movie titles. I decided it would be quicker to just show him than to try and write it all out in an email. So these are kind of a clean version of the different standard movie title looks. A lot of times, they’re in capitals, but I’m not a big fan of the ALL CAPS.

Had to mash something up ultra fast for a pirate show. A little GoMedia vector mashup, some color and type and it was ready to roll.

Painter’s Gallery Opening

Korin Gallery Showing

My friend Korin, a great painter out in LA. She needed something instantly for this so I gave her the old Univers on a white box treatment. The photo was great so I didn’t really need to do much.

T-Shirt for Joplin Storm Relief

T-Shirt for Joplin Storm Relief

I designed these shirts to help raise money for Joplin, Missouri storm relief. I don’t really know what to say about what happened… But hopefully the money we raise with these helps out (it goes to Red Cross). We still have some left in various sizes if you want one.
